Located in the sunny Devon countryside, Kate from @newbuildforeverhome lives with her husband and young children in their detached new build. After purchasing in 2021, the family were excited to put their stamp on the property, setting out to make their new build house a forever home.
“I love interior design and had so many ideas for transforming the inside of the house. We took our time and have done quite a bit internally, but the garden has always let the house down for us.”
Like many new build homes, Kate’s garden suffered from poor drainage, leaving much of the space unusable during the winter months. Determined to create a functional and beautiful outdoor area, Kate decided to tackle the drainage issues by creating a large, planted border around her garden. The final step involved laying the patio to gently slope into the flower beds, transforming the space into a dry, usable area.
“I wanted to create a tranquil space in the garden, away from the main house, where I could enjoy a cup of coffee whilst watching the children play. I love following home and garden accounts to see how other people get the best from their homes, so I drew a sketch of what I had in mind and the vision is now a reality!"
When it came to choosing the right tiles for the patio area, Kate knew she needed something that combined beautiful design with everyday practicality. “This area is now thriving, and having the patio right next to it means I can sit and enjoy watching the bees and butterflies as they visit the garden. It’s such a magical and useful space now,” she says. “We’ve gone from a garden that was a disappointment to a space we all love spending time in.”
