As a new mum, Corrie from The Spence Home has prioritised creating a home that keeps family at its core. Her renovation focus has been on designing a space they’ll love spending time in that's both functional for gatherings and activities, while also being very mindful to keep the rustic and timeless touches that give the home its unique charm.
With over 100 years of history, their Edwardian property is rich with character and timeless charm – something the couple wanted to ensure they preserved while lovingly updating the home to suit their modern lifestyle and young family.
“For me, it's all about creating a home that feels both current and steeped in history. It's a space where modern living thrives, yet the unique charm and character of the Edwardian era are ever-present. This blend of old and new makes our home truly special and a joy to live in.”
When planning the kitchen renovation, Corrie envisioned a space that would become the heart of their family life - a welcoming place to cook, eat, and gather, all while honouring the home's historical essence. Her goal was to create a kitchen that felt both modern and true to the property's rich heritage.
“The original kitchen was charming but not very practical for contemporary needs. Now, you'll find a modern shaker style kitchen that seamlessly coexists with original features like high ceilings, intricate cornices, and touches of antique brass. Our updates have restored and highlighted these period details, not overshadowed them."

The couple's vision to blend modern functionality with the historic charm of their home is evident throughout the property. They seamlessly integrate sleek, modern appliances and generous counter space with period features such as a farmhouse sink, vintage-inspired light fixtures, and cabinetry that reflects the craftsmanship of the early 1900s.
“We also drew inspiration from natural materials and a neutral colour palette, aiming for a timeless look that complements the rest of the house. The goal was to create a kitchen that feels both fresh and in harmony with the Edwardian architecture, a space where the past and present seamlessly blend. This project has not only enhanced the functionality of our home but also deepened our connection to its rich history.”
The room was extended and opened up with large patio doors and skylights to lift the space
Considering both style and functionality, Corrie was immediately drawn to our Devonshire Bianco Antique Effect Porcelain tiles for their kitchen, having fallen in love with their timeless colour and rustic, aged appearance. With soft, warm undertones, these low-maintenance limestone-effect porcelain tiles are the perfect addition to a family kitchen, creating an inviting ambience while maintaining a timeless, sophisticated look.
“Moreover, the practicality of these tiles was a significant factor in our decision. Their compatibility with underfloor heating was crucial for us, especially given the large size of our kitchen space. The Devonshire Bianco tiles met all our requirements, ensuring that our kitchen is not only a visual delight but also a functional and comfortable space for our family to enjoy.”
“My experience with Stone Superstore has been fantastic from start to finish. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the tiles; they were exactly as described and looked even better in person. Throughout the entire process, the team at Stone Superstore was professional, responsive, and helpful, making the entire experience seamless and enjoyable.”
